Pearl V. Gray, age 102, of 15751 Lilac Road, Argos, Indiana, passed away at 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver, Indiana. Pearl was born on February 18, 1907, in Cass County, Indiana, to Andrew and Winifred (Hattery) Books. She was a lifelong resident of the Marshall County Area coming here in 1924, from Illinois.
Pearl and Alfred H. Gray were united in marriage, in Plymouth, on October 10, 1925. Alfred passed away in 1968.
Pearl was a member of the Tippecanoe Saddle Club. She enjoyed gardening, raising German Shepherds, and being on the family farm. She worked at the basket factory and also worked as the clerk for the Family's Auction Business until she was 90 years old. Pearl is survived by her son, Donald A. (Nettie) Gray of Argos; her daughter, Betty Stiles of Marion, Indiana; two brothers, Fremont Books of Plymouth, Indiana and Maynard (Carmen) Books of Plymouth; her sister, Virginia Harner of Marionette, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her sister, Ethel Clietz; and her brother, Glen. The VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the arrangements. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth, at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Marshall County Humane Society.
