Pauline I. "Polly" Hoffman, age 93, of 2009 Felix Place, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Pauline was born on October 30, 1915, in Plymouth, to K. Clyde and Josephine (Hodges) Bennett. Pauline and Ermid G. "Mud" Hoffman were united in marriage on June 24, 1939 in Plymouth. They had been married for 64 years, when Mud passed away on April 29, 2003.
Polly was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth. While living in the Gary and Merrilville area, Polly spent many hours as a "pink lady" volunteer at the hospitals. Polly was a loving and caring person. She reached out to others, with love, in many ways. She lived in her own home until the time of death. She still drove, which was a bone of contention with her family, and still wanted to always "do something" for others. Polly is survived by her extended family, Elizabeth Schlosser Thomas of Arizona, Sam and Karen Schlosser of Plymouth, William and Ann Schlosser of Plymouth, Jana Stoltenberg of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jay V. and Millicent Schlosser Eckhart of Columbus, Ohio, Jacob and Kathleen Schlosser of Columbus, Phillip and Kathy Schlosser of Columbus, Ada Mae and Sid Richardson of Oklahoma, Curtis and Margaret Holdridge of Oklahoma, and Laura Galt Snavely of Chicago, Illinois. Numerous great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ermid G. "Mud" Hoffman and her cousin, John Schlosser. Funeral services for Polly will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth with the Rev. Jean Sparks officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth. A time of visiting with Polly's family will be on Monday, July 13, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, and Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 401 North Walnut Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563. Friends and family are invited to share memories of Polly with her family at www.vangilderfuneralhome.com
