Visitation for Valera Emma Shelly, 81, of Reddick, will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the 3 p.m. funeral service at Reddick United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Cross will officiate.

Burial will be in Round Grove Cemetery, Reddick. Memorials may be made to Reddick United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She died Aug. 20, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services. Arrangements are by the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.

Mrs. Shelly was a homemaker. She was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Kankakee, the daughter of M. Carl and Elsie R. Lehnus Marth. Her husband, Norwood S. Shelly, whom she married May 1, 1948, died Nov. 6, 2004. She graduated from Kankakee High School and was a member of the choir at her church. She was a Lioness in Reddick, active in the Women's Society of World Service (WSBS) at the EUB church in Reddick, a member of the United Methodist Women's group and taught children's Sunday school and Bible school classes for many years. She enjoyed knitting and sewing. She sang with the Bonnie Belles women's barber shop group for years.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Harness of Plymouth, Ind., Dawn and Brian Pritchard of Reddick, Denise and Doug Anderson of Lakeville, Ind.; one son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Janet Shelly of Bonfield; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Mary Marth of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Wilma Scaro of Trenton, Ga., Pat and Bud Kenner of Paxton; and one sister-in-law, Wanda Marth of Sherman.

Deceased are one brother, Harland Marth; and one brother-in-law, Robert Scaro.

Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the local arrangements.
