Richard Martin Day, Sr. 92, passed away, Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, Indiana.
A resident of Plymouth, most of his life, he was born May 19, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan. His parents were Mollie (Bowsher) and Cecil Day. He married Betty Hansen on August 11, 1938 in Culver, Indiana. She passed away November 8, 2007.
Together, Dick and Betty, owned and operated Day's Grocery in West Township, Indiana and Tyner, Indiana for many years. He was a South Bend Tribune motor carrier. Dick also worked at Railway Express in Plymouth. Dick was a member of the Faith Baptist Church, Plymouth. He was a 1937 graduate of Plymouth High School. Dick's hobbies were making stained glass pictures and doing oil paintings.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Sharon (J.D.) Dorman of Cape Coral, Florida; his sons, Richard, Jr. (Martha of Plymouth and James (Diane) Day of Bloomington, Indiana; seven grandchildren; Teresa (Joe) Lovell of South Bend, Indiana, Melanie (Keith) Onash of Florida, Ronald (Lori) Day of Plymouth, Valerie (Shawn) McLochlin of Plymouth, Jon (Angela) Day of Bourbon, Indiana, Bryan (Greta) Day of South Bend, and A.J. (Tammy) Day of Bloomington; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law , Elaine Hansen of Plymouth and Clara Hansen of Culver, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Betty Day and also one great-grandchild.
