Robert Gene Davenport, age 80, of 8859 East 7B Road, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at Miller's Merry Manor, in Plymouth, after having been released from Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, two days prior. Robert was born on March 19, 1929, at home in LaPaz, Indiana, to Allen R. and Hazel (Schroeder) Davenport. He spent most of his life growing up on a farm on King Road in Plymouth. He graduated from Plymouth High School in the Class of 1947. He married Jean O. McAfee on August 6, 1948. After her death in 2001, he found love again, and married Carolyn Joyce (Staley) McAfee on September 3, 2006. He retired from Reliance Electric, formerly Dodge Manufacturing Company, after working several years in the foundry. Bob enjoyed working with wood and later in life, enjoyed going to live theatre performances. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn McAfee; his daughter, Jean E. Norwood of Des Moines, Iowa; his step-son, Lee and Renee McAfee; his step-daughter, Lynn Wilcox; his granddaughter, Angela J. Norwood; his grandson, Andrew Norwood; his step-grandchildren, Jennifer McAfee, Mallory McAfee, and Ethan Wilcox. He was a favored uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ginger in 2005; two sisters; and four brothers.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Inwood United Methodist Church.
